Israel recently did something that represents one of the most important national-security shifts since October 7.

Early Tuesday morning, Israeli jets struck the Abu al-Duhur airbase in northwestern Syria, damaging the runway and storage facilities. The reason was simple: Israel had intelligence that Syria was preparing to allow Turkish forces to deploy there. Israel warned Syria repeatedly. Syria ignored the warnings. So Israel acted — before Turkey could establish drones, aircraft, weapons, or air defenses on that base.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office said Israel will not tolerate threats to its security. Netanyahu’s message to Turkey was even shorter: “Don’t.”
