After decades of failed security arrangements, Israel faces a fundamental question: Can it entrust its northern security to Lebanon, the United Nations and international guarantees?

Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon in 2000. Following the 2006 Lebanon War, UN Security Council Resolution 1701 called for southern Lebanon to remain free of unauthorized armed forces. Yet Hezbollah subsequently expanded its military infrastructure, backed by Iran.

Now, with renewed concerns about Lebanese Army cooperation with Hezbollah, the future of Israel’s northern border is once again under debate.
