The Sukkot holiday is one of three holidays when Jews are commanded to visit the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Yet, because of the destruction of Jerusalem over two thousand years ago, our subsequent exile, with a large percentage of the Jewish people still living in physical exile, few Jews have taken the opportunity to actualize this central commandment. Whereas last year’s high was 747 Jews going up to the Temple Mount on the first day of Sukkot (in the Jewish year of 5782), this year that number was just about dubled, with 1,397 Jews going up (in the Jewish year of 5783).
